About the Book: Liberal Peace in Question: Politics of State and Market Reform in Sri Lanka The present book examines the internationally facilitated peaceprocess between the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) and theLiberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in order to providecritical insights on contemporary attempts at crafting liberalpeace in intrastate conflicts. The general argument is for abroadened political perspective on conflict resolution, extendingthe focus from the narrow confines of formal peace negotiations andelitist crafting of liberal peace, to the contextual politics ofstate reforms for group rights and power-sharing and the associatedpolitics of economic reforms for neoliberal development. Inexamining the contextual politics of state and market reforms inSri Lanka, the book highlight the tensions between liberal peaceand Sinhalese and Tamil nationalisms, demonstrated in thecontestations over political exclusion vs. inclusion in peacenegotiations, individual human rights vs. group rights, territorialpower sharing vs. state sovereignty and neoliberal development vs.social welfare.
