What the book covers: Except in rare cases, software development is now mostly done using a "framework" such as iOS, Enterprise Java, .NET or the IOS SDK. In other words, rarely does a programmer design and build an object-oriented in a "green-field" using only the compiler for a language and the libraries that come with it. This book teaches new developers how to create object-oriented programs within a framework, and specifically within the iOS framework. By understanding objected-oriented development best practices, new programmers learn to build apps are easy to debug, evolve, and maintain. Also, when software developers understand how the framework itself is built around object-oriented concepts (such as object-oriented design patterns) and related software engineering principles (such as low coupling, high cohesion and partitioned according to a careful separation of concerns), they understand why the framework is designed the way it is. This understanding helps new programmers use the framework better. In addition, the framework itself serves as a comprehensive example of an object-oriented system that helps developers get a deeper grounding in object-oriented principles and their application.
Topics include: Understanding the Xcode programming environment and Storyboards, Creating simple interfaces, Using libraries, Functions, Structures, Arrays, Pointers, and an entire part on creating and extending objects and object-oriented programming.
Series features: Information presented in the straightforward but fun language that has defined the Dummies series for more than fifteen years.
