While the historical, social and literary dimensions of Sikhism have been much appreciated, its philosophical dimension has not received the same measure of attention. This book is an attempt to rectify the situation. It highlights those dimensions of sikh thought which are relevant to the discussion of time-honoured issues in the philosophy of religion, such as arguments for the existence of God, the problem of evil, and so on. In this sense the book is also an attempt to deprovincialise the Western Philosophy of religion, by contextualising it in an Indian matrix. Previous works by the author on this topic have covered Indic thoguht during the ancient and modern periods of India`s history, leaving a gap so far as the medieval period was concerned. This study of Sikhism is a modest effort to close that gap. About Author : Formerly of the IAS, Arvind Sharma is currently the Birks Professor of Comparative Religion in the Faculty of Religious studies at Mcgill University in Montreal, Canada. He has also taught in Australia and the United States and his others works include: A Hindu Perspective on the Philosophy of Religion (1991), The Philosophy of Religion and Advaita Vedanta: A Study in Religion and Reason (1995), The Philosophy of Religion: A Buddhist Perspective (1995), A Jaina Perspective on the Philosophy of Religion (2001), and A Primal Perspective on the Philosophy of Religion (2006).
