A Clash Of Kings is the second book in the fantasy series, A Song Of Ice And Fire, by George R. R. Martin. It picks up from where the first book, A Game Of Thrones, leaves the story, and this book is narrated from the points of view of the nine primary characters, true to the pattern set by the first book in the series.
In this book, the war haunting the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros has become more complicated. Joffrey, the son of Queen Cersei and her brother Jaime Lannister, usurps the Iron Throne after the death of King Robert Baratheon, but Robert’s brothers, Stannis and Renly, also lay their claim to the throne. Acting upon an order delivered by the King at his deathbed, Robb Stark wears the crown up north, due to his father’s demise.
From a bright red comet in the night sky to a white raven bringing news from the Citadel, all omens carry a sense of impending doom. The end of the longest summer forecasts a stark winter just as long, perhaps longer. The fight for the coveted Iron Throne takes the center stage in this book of fantasy and adventure.
A Clash Of Kings was first published in 1998 in the United Kingdom. It received positive reviews and won the Locus Award (1999) and the Ignotus Award (2004). It was also nominated for the Nebula Award.ISBN - 9780006479895
