I am happy to note that an ``Atlas-Pathology of Tumours of Central Nervous System`` is being brought out for the first time in India. The authors, late Prof. Darab K. Dastur and Dr. Daya K. Manghani, are eminent Neuropathologists from this part of the world. This book reflects the work done in the Department of Neuropathology & Applied Biology, Mumbai Hospital from 1953 onwards, i.e. more than 45 years.
The pathological aspects of more than 5000 intracranial space occupying lesions have been studied in detail including autopsy material, and the study includes, besides light microscopy, electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry. Chronic inflammatory granulomas, particularly tuberculomas, have been studied elaborately Tumours of the Glial series, tumours of the Neuron series, Meningiomas, Schwannomas, tumours of Maldevelopmental origin, Malignant mesenchymal tumours, Metastases, Pituitary tumours, Inflammatory space occupying lesions have been evaluated and the attention has been paid to epidemiological and statistical data.
The 550 illustrations in this book will be a valuable source of information not only to Neuropathologists, but also for teachers and residents in General Pathology, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuroradiology, Medicine and of some interest to Neurobiologists in general.
It is indeed a matter of pride to the Neuroscientists of the country that such an excellent book has been brought out.
