The Third eye is a story about the history, religion, culture, and tradition of Tibet through the eyes of a Tibetan priest. Lobsang Rampa. The son of a wealthy Tibetan aristocrat gets the signs from the skies that he must leave the worldly ways and become a lama. The book elaborates the rituals and customs followed inside a monk monastery experienced by a young lama as a young boy and an adult. Soon his exemplary talents are recognized, and with an all pervading third eye, his powers are used for safeguarding Tibet. Published in the United Kingdom in 1956, it inspired many Tibetologists due to the colourful world painted by Rampa in this book.
A British man named Cyril Henry Hoskin claimed that he was in fact a Tibetan Monk, Lobsang Rampa. He was born as Hoskin in 1910 and claimed that his body was simply hosting the spirit of Tuesday Lobsang Rampa. Tuesday signified the day of birth as per a claim in The Third Eye that the Tibetans were named after the day of birth. Rampa was a supporter of the Tibet cause and a writer of the occult and religion. Accused by the British press of being a charlatan, Rampa left to settle in Canada with his wife, San Ra’ab Rampa, and died in 1981. A few of his other books are Living With the Lama, a story by his cat describing its life with Rampa, Cave of The Ancients, Beyond The Tenth, Tibetan Sage, Three Lives, Candlelight, The Hermit, The Saffron Robe, and Wisdom of The Ancients.ISBN - 9780345340382
