This textbook introduces the students to the science and technology of powder metallurgy including the treatment of ceramic powders and powders of some intermetallic compounds. It describes the raw materials needed for powder metallurgy technology and discusses the various methods of production of metal powders and non-metallic powders, and explains their characteristics as well. The book also deals with the technological aspects of compacting and sintering. It enumerates various applications of powder metallurgy technology using different techniques as well as describes most of the recent developments in powder metallurgy such as atomization, metal injection moulding, hot isostatic pressing, and so forth. Some suggestions for future developments in this technology and ideas for potential entrepreneurship in this field are also included.
The book is chiefly intended for the undergraduate students of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering for a one semester course on Powder Metallurgy. It would also be of immense utility to the students of Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering for their courses in Manufacturing Technology, Processes and Practices.ISBN 9788120344235
