Heaney is probably the most distinguished living Irish poet, at least in the sense of having achieved and international reputation. His early poetry is rooted in the farmland of his youth, and communicates a strong physical sense of environment with subtlety and economy of words. His later work, densely written and often poignant, abroads on the cultural and historical implications of words and explores their use in wider social and political contexts.
Including Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995, Heaney enjoys near half a century of accolades to his credit. His The Riverbank Field (2007) is a testimony of his facile pen still creating marvels of literature.
