Mahanirvana Tantra seems to play an important role during this Age, its place in the framework of Kali Yuga is presented by Lord Shiva Himself thus: “For the benefit of men of the Kali Yuga, men bereft of energy and dependent for existence on the food they eat, the Kaula (i.e. Tantra) doctrine, O Auspicious One! is given” (Avalon).
Furthermore, Lord Shiva proclaims that “In this age the Mantras of the Tantras are efficacious, yield immediate fruit, and are auspicious for Japa, Yajna, and all such practices and ceremonies. The Vedic rites and Mantras which were efficacious in the Satya Yuga, have ceased to be so in this.” (Avalon).
The Mahanirvana Tantra extensively describes particularities of the Kali Age, the way to recognize features of its strong grip on humanity. These particularities are to be seen primarily from Dharma perspective. However, they might be seen also as ethical, social, even ecological issues. For the facts described are not particular to any distinct society in time and space, but relevant to any society. Mahanirvana Tantra is not to be seen a desperate cry and a fatalistic exposition of various problems of humanity in the Kali Age, but a very practical approach to solving them through various rites of passage.ISBN: 8177557343
