About the Author:-One of the first pilgrims to travel to India from China, Hiuen-Tsiang was a monk whose journeys brought him in close contact with India`s flourishing Buddhist culture, giving him a deep understanding of the political, social, and economic scenarios of the country. After a 2-year study period in northwest India, he sailed down the Ganges to visit the holy land of Buddhism. His itinerary included Kapilavastu, the birthplace of Buddha; Benares; Sarnath, where Buddha delivered his first sermon; and Bodhgaya, where Buddha attained his nirvana under the bodhi tree. `History of the early life of Hiuen Tsiang and his travels in the western world was written by the Shamn Hwui Li. The author has translated the book from the Chinese language with an introduction containing an account of the works of Hiuen-Tsiang and a preface by L. Cranmer-Bying. The book is based on his records of journey in India and other parts of the world.
