This book has been deemed as a classic and has stood the test of time. The book has been considered by academicians and scholars of great significance and value to literature. This forms a part of the knowledge base for future generations. It is part of series on the colonisation and the expansion of its empire by Britain. It starts with the discovery of this land by the Europeans, and goes on to describe Jacques Cartier, Elizabethan pioneers, Champlain, the geographical conditions, the natives, Hudson bay explorers, Alexander Henry Sr, Samuel Hearne, Alexander Mackenzie and his successors. It also describes peopled and described gaps in Canadian history filling the overview of history described in many history lessons. This book is probably misleadingly named for today`s average reader. It would dwell on the general experiences of Pioneers to Canada in general and came to realize quickly that more to the point; it is focused upon Explorere of Canada. That`s a fine point perhaps, and it may be defensible given that the book is older and in the vernacular of its day the meaning was more generally understood. The typical stereotypes abound and when positive statements are made, they appear to almost be apologetic and set in contrast to the focus upon hygene, morals and cultural differences that are laid out in a manner that can only be called self-aggrandizing.
