Through this little work, the author has discussed briefly the main landmark in the history of Kalinga for a period more than seven hundred years, from the conquest of Samudra Gupta in the 4th century A.D. up to the accession of Anantavanman Codganga in A.D. 1078. Although the time is not yet ripe for writing a detailed history of the period, it would be useful as a necessary preliminary such study, to prepare a skeleton or framework of political history by a critical and comprehensive study of all the available data. Much speculation has been made regarding the boundaries of Kalinga. There is no doubt that they varied from time to time without going into this vexed question, the author would assume, for the purpose of the present paper, that the country extended from the Mahanadi to the Godavari river. The first definite idea of the political history of Kalinga during the period under review is obtained from the Allahabad Pillar Inscription of Samudra Gupta. The subject of the book is good from the historical point view and also interesting for the common readers
