The author has prepared the text of this multi-volume book through his minute observation on Uralis and Sholagas. He made the following observations, were mostly the same individuals as those measured by him when he visited to Dimbhum in the Indian jungle. He examined 65 Uralis and 18 Sholagas, the subjects of investigation being visual acuity, colour vision and quantitative estimation of two visual illusions, a few observations being also made on other illusions. These people were hardly ideal subjects for psychological experimentation. They came to us in a state of abject fear at the prospect of our examination, and in some cases continued so terrified throughout that their observations were of little value. The observations were made in the open air. There were considerable differences of illumination, as some days were much cloudier than others. The method was fairly readily acquired by most of the people, and, though some were very slow and had to be reexamined several times, there was no case in which he completely failed to get a result. This volume is the product of extensive study of these races. This volume contains nine plates. It was first published in 1903.
