The volume has been prepared with the great assistance from Mr. C. E. A. W. Oldham, I.C.S., Director of Agriculture, Bengal and formerly, Collector of Gaya. He placed a collection of papers relating to Gaya at the author’s disposal, revised his proofs, and gave him many invaluable suggestions. The gazetteer is divided into several chapters, which provide an interesting account of the district named Gaya. It states that the district is divided into two distinct parts with different physical features.The author has given considerable space in the volume to its physical aspects, history, popular religion, people, public health, agriculture, irrigation and natural calamities. The volume also tells about the various systems of rent payment prevailing in the region during that time. It describes the policies relating to rent, wages and prices. The book informs about the general administration, land revenue administration, local self-government and the education system of the district, along with its progress.
