This second edition on the?Guide to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act?builds upon the welldeserved success of the previous edition. The book contains an exhaustive commentary on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985, with reference to case law of the Supreme Court of India as well as the High Courts. The scope of the Act was widened with the NDPS (Amendment) Act 2001, to identify drug traffickers and the concepts of ?controlled substances? and ?controlled delivery? were introduced. The Act made stringent provisions for the control and regulation of operations relating to drugs and psychotropic substances. It was also aimed at implementing international conventions on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The entire scheme of punishment under the Act also underwent radical changes, with some special features being the identification and rehabilitation of drug addicts. Changes regarding search, seizure, arrest and investigation with presumption for illegal possession were also introduced. Long disputes relating to ?personal search? and application of sections 42, 43 and 50 have been settledby a larger Bench?s decision.
The case law and all statutory changes in this edition have been extensively updated to ensure that this edition, too, will prove to be invaluable to practitioners, members of the Bar and Bench, and all others interested in this field.ISBN 9788180385216
