Archer, in his inimitable style, begins The Eleventh Commandment with Connor chasing and then assassinating the Colombian President. This action carried out on the directive of his superiors triggers off a set of events that could possibly place the world in the throes of another cold war. However, all these directives have been placed on the orders of the director of the CIA, Helen Dexter. She needs Connor killed or alternately vanished because of her tacit policies and Connor’s compliance to such orders. She conjures up a last mission that places him in hostile Russian soil and carries him straight into their prison leaving her free off her reliant assassin and evidence of her actions.
Connor is a highly trained NOC, an undercover CIA agent who assassinates for the sake for his country. His deep commitment to his country and his embedded love for his hometown, Ireland is fleshed out by Archer in a fashion that renders Connor a man not just to be feared but also revered. This time however, for Connor to come onto his retirement alive, he must use improvised albeit guerrilla intelligence and old friends to find his way of this most dangerous predilection.
At the same time of Connor’s incarceration, there is trouble brewing in the Oval Office of the White House. The new Russian president is hell bent on provoking both countries into a military intervention and this is a direct threat to control over foreign policy. The president finds no choice but to try and employ Connor in an attempt to rid himself doubly of both the director of the CIA and the new Russian policy that threatens more than the sovereignty of the country.
The novel swerves its way around multiple locations and readers find Connor swerving through as many identities.
