Teacher is the topmost academic and professional person in the educational pyramid. The National Policy on Education (1986) recommended gthe status of the teacher reflects the socio-cultural ethos of society and no people can rise above the level of its teachersh. Empowerment of teachers is a strategy to enhance the quality of education in the present era. Empowered teachers contribute to the professional operations of the school and learning institutions. They have authority and autonomy with concomittant responsibility for excelling their maximum performance. To bring about effective and meaningful changes and to enhance the quality in education a natural step forward is to empower the teachers at large. The future classroom teachers need to be equipped to meet the emerging challenges. Therefore teachers need to be oriented towards new content, new pedagogical techniques and strategies.
Thus empowerment of teachers is the need of the hour. The forces of change brought on by global competition, new technologies and students; mind shift requires a culture of empowerment. gThe real essence of empowerment comes from releasing the knowledge experience and motivational power that is already in people but is being severely underutilized.h Empowerment works for those that make the effort to change attitudes, behaviours, practices and ways of relating must change for an organization and its team members and leaders to become empowered. This is also a challenge to our teaching community. In this context the seminar aims at enhanving the quality of teachers by creating a culture of empowerment by inviting substantial papers on gEmpowerment of Teachers-A Practical Solutionh for discussion and resolution. This seminar is a humble beginning towards the different journey to empowerment.
