The art of teaching mathematics lies in the ability of the instructor to motivate and inspire individuals to look beyond the numbers and understand the concepts. This book is designed to revive this art, focusing more on the aspects of learning the ideas behind the math rather than the sheer mechanics of mathematical operation. This text address the art of teaching mathematics while also providing specific aids and activities in arithematic, geometry, algebra and calculus and statistics for use in the classroom. The authors pay close attention to the role, importance, methods and techniques of motivation. They present ideas that will generate attention, interest and surpise among students and will thus foster creative thinking. The material in the text is based on talks given by the authors at the professional meetings as well as the actual application of their ideas in undergraduate and graduate classes they taught. Additionally, many laboratory and discovery activities have been used by authors in teaching junior and senior high school math classes.
About the Author Dr. Y.K. Singh (b.1964) obtained his three Post-graduation degrees in 1988 and M.Ed., in 1984 from Meerut University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Education from Meerut University in 1992 and started his Professional Career as a lecturer in Education in a Teacher`s Training College, Ajmer (1988-89), Rajasthan University, Jaipur, (1989-91) and ahs served as a Sr. Lecturer in the Department of Education (1991-2000) and Asst. Director Institute of Information and Science (2002-2003) with in charge, Computer Centre from Sept, 2000 to Nov, 2003 in Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya, Chitrakoot (Sama), M.P. He has obtained his computer certificates and diploma from the New Horizon`s, Lodhi Road, New Delhi between 2000 to 2003. It is one of the best institutions in computer training and education in India.
Dr. Singh has written more than 12 Books in the Language of Hindi and English. He has conducted more than 5 educational Research projects and his areas of interest besides the present one are Education for Rural People and Visually Handicapped, Psychology of Education, Research Methodology, Teacher Education, Technology of Teaching, School Administration and Supervision. He is a member and advisor in many national and international committees.
Dr. Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui was born at Jiragaur, P.O. Kamalganj, District Furukhabad, (Uttar Pradesh), obtained first certificate (High School from Kamalganj. He obtained second certificate (intermediate) from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Nainital. He obtained B.A. and M.A. (Economics) degrees from Kumaun University, Nainital, B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Phil (Education) and Ph.D. (Education) from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.
He worked in the National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi as Junior Project Fellow in the Department of Measurement, Evaluation, survey and Data Processing in 1987 for a short period. He also worked in Jamia Millia Islamia University, as Lecturer in Education (Economics) on adhoc basis from 1st January 1991 to 15th January 1992.
He contributed two Books earlier in the area of Models of Teaching. These are "Models of Teaching : Theory and Research", and "Excellence of `Teaching : A Model Approach". He also contributed some research papers in the area of models of teaching and Teacher education Published in the important journals in India like "Journal of Indian Education" and Indian Educational Review : A Research Journal published by National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi.
