Jean Filliozat (1906-1982) was a French author. He studied medicine and was a physician between 1930 and 1947. He learned Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan and Tamil before he wrote some important works on the history of Indian medicine. He taught at College de France from 1952 to 1978.
The present book contains the history of Indian medicine from the earliest ages to the present time, and was awarded the Griffith Memorial Prize for the encouragement of advanced study of Science and Letters by the Calcutta University in 1909. This is a pioneer work of its kind and traces in detail the steady growth of the ancient science of medicine from the Vedic times upto the advent of the British rule.
