Gender issues have emerged at the central stage of development process in most of countries including India. In fact, empowering women to reduce gender inequalities in the society has been a major concern of policy makers and planners all over the world. Low and declining sex ratio, a complex phenomenon, may be considered as a reflection of gender bias prevailing in any society. Declining sex ratio is an issue of grave concern in India. The child sex ratio has declined drastically from 962 in 1981 to 914 in 2011. In some states like Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan the ratio has declined to less than 900 girls per 1000 boys. If the decline in sex ratio is not checked, soon there would be totally new kind of socio-sexual problems. It further will lead to polyandry, increase in rape, prostitution, importation and abduction of females, which further will disturb the demographic balance and ultimately the natural balance. The status of females` will be greatly undermined as a scantiness of females in future decades isbn 9788183875295
