This book attempts to present to a kaleidoscopic scenario in present India and its important dimensions. special focus has been given to the fast emerging health perspectives in the first part the book. Many papers in this book concentrate on women’s health, gender-discrimination of girl child and fertility issues which are essential to India. Second part essentially concentrates on heath among the tribals, which are the most neglected sections by heath care system in India. Two of the papers in the section fours on HIV/AIDS in highly prevalent states in India and implication of the cost of the total health care system in India. Third spells out some of the approaches to tackle the mass scale heath problems in the country. The first papers in third part advocates ‘tacking malnutrition as an essential of women’s health and empowerment programme’. Two papers concentrate on the application and practice of alternative medicine, i.e., ayurveda, for treating asthama and diabetes, which are rampant in India in accounting to 60-70% of the deaths.
