Thought Indian and foreign scholars have written a lot about Gonds, not much is known about Pardhans who are ethnically and culturally a part of the great Gonds and have been chiefly responsible for preserving and passing on of the mythology, rituals, folk-lore etc. of the tribe. In this study of the Pradhans, from Yavatmal district, which is the chief habitat of the Pardhans in Vidarbha, the author describes the ethnic status of the tribe, its social organisation and important institutions like marriage, family etc. Apart from studying their socio cultural aspects, the author has traced the social change which has set in the tribe since planned development started in the region. This is an authentic addition to the existing literature on the tribe and would be welcomed by sociologists, anthropologists, the development authorities and administrators as well as scholars and readers in generalISBN:8170222621
