The book deals with the impact of new technology of the use of air power. It describes the origin of air power during the First World War whenits role was primarily providing support to the land forces. During the Second World War air power played an independent role in the famous battle of britain and during the Bomber offensives against Germany and Japan. The dropping of atomic weapons by American bombers over japan brought about the Japanese surrender. The new technologies developed during the 1970s and 1980s in the form of precision Guided weapons (PMGs) like guided missiles and bombs, air-borne command control, communication and intelligence system, in-flight refuelling to extend operational range of combat aircraft, space- based satelite intelligence, communicatin, navigation and weather forecasting systems, as well as a greater array of airborne electronic Warfare (EW) systems have enabled air power to provide decisive in post World War 2, conflicts in the Middle East. These new technology air power weapon systems have, to a large extent, exploited the inherent potential of air power. But the doctrines, organisations, and higher command control of air forces need to be re-evaluated and modified to effectively exploit the new technologies to the full extent. These aspects have been examined and analysed in the book in greater detail particularly with reference to air power asset of developing countries like india.
