This book is an outcome of the survey of the textile and bamboo craft tradition of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. These crafts demonstrate how local people have exercised their ingenuity using natural material to create a variety of devices, tools, household objects, textiles, houses and bridges. Textile and Bamboo Crafts of the Northeastern Region reveals the close relatioship between the economic and cultureal life of the region. Aditi Shirali ( Aditi Rajan), textile designer and senior faculty at the national Institute of Design, has developed and conducted courses in weave design, craft documentation, fabric construction and architectural textiles. She has been a visiting faculty at Konstfack, Sweden and Indus Valley School of Design, Pakistan. Her interests are in textile traditions and their interpretations into contemporary designs.
